Post Apocalyptic Fiction Recs

Hey reader friends. So, we're all in the same boat right now - social distancing and self-isolating and all that lovely stuff.  You're probably getting a little antsy and looking for something to pass the time. Some Girls Bind - Rory James

There has been some hype about this book. I personally didn't understand all the hype

This was not a terrible book, but I didn't find it as hype worthy as some people did.  It just felt kind of flat and unimpressive to me.  Of course, take this at face value, because this is coming from someone who is not genderqueer, trans, or NB.  That could have been why I had trouble feeling a connection with the main character. 

My thought on the main character was this: I didn't feel like she really had that much tension or external struggles with being genderqueer or questioning.  There, to me, was not much conflict in the book.  Showing more of a struggle with the character and her friends, family, other people, etc, could have made this a better, more well developed story. 

I personally did not feel there was much internal struggle as well.  Or rather, I felt like the internal struggle Jamie experienced was not as well developed or fleshed out as it could have been.  This story had a real chance to show what being genderqueer is like, and to me, it missed the mark just a bit.

This is the fifth book in the Wayward Children Series.  This story, once again, follows Jack (and in a manner, her sister Jill.) This is the second book in the series to follow Jack and Jill to the moors.

I liked this book, but not as much as its predecessors.   I personally felt like another trip to the moors and Jack and Jill's world was repetitive. It wasn't a necessary book that added much to the series.

I felt like there wasn't much character growth in this book. Where is there to go when you already know Jill is a murderous bitch who has no desire to change?  The other characters didn't show much growth though either.  It leaves me wondering where the story will go in the future, because I don't think the author has any notion of ending this series any time soon. 

There was, as usual, a lot happening in this story, and it was dark, and a bit twisted, because it is Jack and Jill's world after all. But I didn't really feel like the things that happened added much to the story and or the series.  The book and story and events weren't terrible, but this book didn't feel as exciting to me as the other books in the series. 

I'll probably continue reading the series if the author continues it, but right now I am totally feeling Dean Winchester Meh about it.
