Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.

Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.

But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?

Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.

Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.

But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?

What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?

What if life really isn’t like a Broadway play?

But what if it is?

What If It's Us, a novel written by best friend duo Adam Silvera and Becky Albertalli, is the third book I've read by Albertalli, and the second by Silvera.  As much as other people loved this book, I thought it was just okay.

The idea for the book sounded cute, but for me, the execution just fell a little flat.

The Characters:

*The characters were all a bit one-dimensional.  There didn't feel like there was really a lot of growth for the characters in this novel.

The Drama, Drama, Drama.

*I know this is a book about teens and revolving around teen issues.  And even with adults, there is bound to be a *little* bit of drama in life.  But there is never 24 hour "OH MY GOD THE WORLD IS ENDING" drama, even among teenagers.

Their Meeting?!

*Ok, so maybe some people thought the way that Art and Ben meet the second time is so cute!  I mean, they really wanted to see each other again, and so Art goes and hangs up a poster of Ben's face in a coffee shop after he did some light internet stalking of Ben?  And that doesn't seem a little weird to anyone else?

The Writing/Story

*The story and writing could have been better.  I know that the author's are both good writers, and it wasn't as bad as some books I've read (I'm looking at you Fifty Shades and Twilight), but this book wasn't as well written as their other books I've read, nor did the story feel as strong or well developed as it could have been.

So, while I did think this book was alright, I didn't love it - it was just alright.  I'd say read it if you want, but don't get your hopes up to high.

If you've already read this book, let know what you think in the comments!
